The book follows the itinerant literary figure Leopold Bloom as he visits Dublin in June 1904. It establishes a series of parallel literary works between the eponymous hero and various characters, including Molly Bloom and Penelope, as well as various other Irish and English literary figures.
Since its publication, The Joyce Book has faced various controversies and scrutiny, including an obscenity trial and a series of textual "Joyce Wars".
