In my opinion post offices aren't as useful as they used to be, due to the internet being very popular nowadays. There are no need for mail to be sent through a post office as email exists and the internet has simplified every characteristic of a normal letter. Post offices are used nowadays to send packages, so they aren't completely out of the picture nowadays.
