Of course, first it was wrote and put in an envelope. Then stamps were put on it and it was posted in a post box. A post office worker collected it and took it to a sorting office. Here the letters were sorted by their postcodes. This was done by a machine, but in the past it was not done by machine - it was done by hand. Then the letters were took by road, rail and air to their destination, where the post office workers got the letters for their round.
