In the field of education, a teacher is a person who educates and teaches other people. A teacher who educates a particular student can also be described as a personal tutor. In many countries, a person wishing to become a teacher for state schools must first obtain a professional qualification or accreditation from a university or college. Teachers can use a lesson plan to facilitate learning by providing a course of study that refers to a standard curriculum.
The role of a teacher can vary between cultures. Primary school teachers teach the alphabet and arithmetic, or some of the other school subjects. Other teachers may provide formal or vocational training, geography, arts, religion or spirituality, civics, history, life or skills.
