While most weather forecasters are qualified meteorologists, they have to be more than just scientists. Every script must catch the attention of the viewer which means that it cannot be just a flat report. Personality counts for a lot, and since TV meteorologists write their own bulletins, they can decide not only what to say but how to say it. Even when emergency broadcast are screened, the meteorologist must be as calm and good-humoured as when he or she presents the daily programme.
